On December 7, the Houston Astros hired Jeff Luhnow as their general manager, culminating his rise through the Cardinals ranks as a top player developer. Baseball America would bestow the Cardinals with their Organization of the Year award for the first time, an award given since 1982. It was given in part to recognize the increased productivity of the Cardinals farm system. Seventeen of the 25 players on the Cardinals’ 2011 postseason roster were drafted and developed by the Cardinals. Maybe I’ve played Super Mario World enough to have muscle memory for it, (it’s my favorite game of all time) but I would be incredibly surprised if latency was the real issue. During that span, the Yankees played in all World Series except 1954 and 1959, winning nine of them. From 1949 to 1953, the Yankees won the World Series five years in a row; from 1936 to 1939 the Yankees won four World Series Championships in a row. There are only two other occasions when a team has won at least three consecutive World Series: 1972 to 1974 by the Oakland Athletics, and 1998 to 2000 by the Yankees.

The 1987 Minnesota Twins became the first team in the history of the World Series to win the championship by winning all 4 games they hosted when they defeated the St. Louis Cardinals. They repeated this 4 years later in 1991 when they defeated the Atlanta Braves.

For the Dodgers, Jack Flaherty, Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Walker Buehler are the three starters left standing at this point, and all three will start in this series.
